Sr. Avionics Engineer 


We are looking for a team member who will support the design and development of our lunar rover. Key work areas include vehicle electrical systems architecture, power system design, requirements capture, and wire harness design. You will engage with other Astrolab engineers to discover the needs of the mission and design robust and reliable systems. You will be responsible for the complete life cycle of the systems you create, from development to testing to operation during a mission. 


Responsibilities:  

  • Design avionics systems and perform cross-disciplinary trades 
  • Architect systems for electrical power generation, storage, regulation, and distribution 
  • Evaluate environmental, acoustic, shock, mass, deployment, and reliability requirements to verify the system design will satisfy mission requirements 
  • Design wire harnesses and cable assemblies 
  • Troubleshoot performance anomalies and diagnose test failures. Develop mitigation plans and identify impacts to subsystems and vehicle performance 
  • Design and perform verification tests at the component and system level 
  • Troubleshoot issues on prototype and production assemblies 
  • Support on-site and off-site vehicle testing 


Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or STEM field 
  • 5+ years of industry experience in engineering 
  • Experience with integrated electrical systems (electric vehicles, spacecraft, launch vehicle, robotics, etc.) 


Preferred Skills and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering 
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering 
  • Experience with early life-cycle engineering activities 
  • Experience with engineering instrumentation, including selection, installation, checkouts, and troubleshooting 
  • Experience with 3D CAD software 
  • Experience with common industry communication protocols (CAN, RS232, RS422, Ethernet, EtherCAT) 
  • LabVIEW and/or Python coding experience with direct applicability to test and data acquisition systems.  
  • Ability to create/revise technical documents 
  • Ability to succeed in a lean, dynamic, and growing startup environment  
  • Outstanding communication and written documentation skills

  • Base salary range: 117,000-178,000 (commensurate with skills and experience)
